Understanding ICSI
This is a specialised procedure where we select a single healthy sperm and carefully inject it directly into an egg. ICSI is short for Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection, and is commonly performed as part of in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatments.
During ICSI, a single sperm is carefully selected and injected directly into an egg. This very precise technique which helps facilitate fertilisation by bypassing part of the challenge that sperm cells face to pass through the ‘shell’ of the egg.
ICSI is particularly useful in cases of male infertility, where the sperm may have difficulty reaching or penetrating the egg on its own. It can also be beneficial when previous attempts at IVF have not succeeded.
What to expect from an ICSI treatment?
